Not worth bothering with then.

I have a friend giving away a PIII 600 (IIRC) to a good cause, but they would need to collect it - is it James Wallbank that collects old PC's and does interesting things with them? (If it is James, then I also have a sneaking suspicion that he used to be called Jim and used to go to Rebels) if it is email me off list and I will put you in contact with him.

Cheers

Steve

Guys,

I wouldn't write off Solaris 10 as useless.

I am a member of the Solaris (for Intel) mailing list.

It is very active and has been for some time. There are Sun employee's who take an active role in that list.

The development of Solaris 10 has been going on for some time, and people who have reported bugs through the mailing list, have seen them resolved in newer builds.

The first non-beta is due in January.

I actually setup build 69 of Solaris Express (which is the beta name for Solaris 10) in VMware under Linux just the other day.

It was very very smooth running indeed and worked absolutely brilliantly.

Much newer hardware support is coming along quite nicely too.

Also, the new Java Desktop System is shaping up nicely, which will run on Solaris x86 and provide a very robust desktop environment.

The peeps on the mailing list are also extremely helpful if you run into a problem with it. Being that some are Sun employees, you get an answer from the horses mouth and if not, there are people there who will actually go and find the people at Sun who can answer your problem ie. the people who wrote that portion of the software.

All I would say is dont write if off on the basis of having played around with it for 10 minutes and then got bored. There is a lot more to Solaris 10 than meets the eye!

Steve.

(And no, I have no connection with Sun whatsoever).
