[Sheflug] Free or not so free fonts

Does anyone know the ruling on fonts regarding copyright, trademarks etc?

I am trying to make a completely free collection that I can give away to
anyone, anywhere.

Looking at GNU sites, there appears to be very little.

I obviously have the ttf-Bitstream-Vera fonts and those from cheapskate fonts
(Dustimo etc,).

Apart from Isabella, Staypuff and Essays1743 from thibault, I seem to be at a
loss finding any more.
I know I can get hold of fonts, but even packages like Gentium is not
completely free from copyright.

Does anyone have recommendations of where to obtain others that are completely
open and free to use?

This started out as an exercise in trying to support the older html3 (I think)
default fonts of Serif, Sans-serif, monospace, cursive and fantasy. But I
could not find a fantasy font that was completely copyright free.
Firefox seems to assume only Serif, Sans-serif, monospace and proportional are
default.
