Hi
Thumbing through The Times after solving todays Su Doku for a hoped
for case of champagne I find a story at page 4 in T2 which is a good
read.
" Want to work for Bill Gates ? Move Mt Fuji"
It goes into some detail about the tests that prospective candidates
have to pass in order to be considered for a job. Most of it is
extremely funny :)

the online version is nothing like as good as the printed version but
you do get a flavour of what it's all about. Best to read the T2
article in full.
The North Pole part of the solution was obvious but I don't know that I
would have got the South Pole part of the solution. I am therefore
relieved BG don't need me ;-)
But when did you last have to apply for a job? A lot of companies use
these techniques and various other psychological profiling and
temperment evaluation techniques.
One interview I went to with CA in Datchett, I actually got a test of my
C skills - rare - I think it's been the only interview I have had in
the past 20 or so years that wanted to confirm I did know the language
used - but nice to know technical tests do exist in the programming trade.
Perhaps it's not only "not what you know but who you know" that gets you
the job these days it's also "not what you know but how you display you
know it".

Lesley
