Hello all,

On Saturday I met a user who was very upset with his system and was wondering if he had to do yet another installation.

His problem was that for some reason Firefox had become slow.
Not its actual rendering, but for inputting text.
An example was when he opened Google and started to type a query. The cursor did not appear in the search box and he had finished typing a couple of words before any characters appeared in the box.
Entering a URL also had the same delay.
I've seen this sort of behaviour on a HDinstalled Knoppix system (which we assumed was some sort of X issue at the time), but also more recently on a friend's old pentium laptop running Windows 98. Entering text in web forms was unusably slow - maybe 1.5 characters per second, though the address bar seemed okay. Other applications were fine.

That it occurs on both linux and windows suggests that its a Firefox issue, not an OS one, but beyond that I've no idea. I've been happily using Firefox on both linux and win2000 boxen without problems for ages.

A quick google doesn't seem to bring up anything of help.
