[Sheflug] exportfs

On the server, /etc/exports reads:
/software machine1(sync,ro) machine2(sync,ro) machine3(sync,ro)

(machine1, etc, are actually the FQDNs. And there's quite a lot of them.)

Now I refresh the export list, and get a problem:

# exportfs -r
machine2:/software: Invalid argument

So I delete the entire line in /etc/exports and retype, to eliminate the
chance of any invisible control characters. I swap the order around. I
put machine2 on a new line. I try other arguments. Nothing going; it's
still giving that "Invalid argument".

Yet, if I export a *subdirectory* to machine2, it works:

/software/bin: machine2(sync,ro)

# exportfs -r
#

*headscratch*
Any clues?

R.
