I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please?

I have a machine running Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog on my home network. I would like to put in a wireless network card and then set it up as a proxy server/router with parental controls to give my son access to the net.

Is this a feasible project and can anyone point me in the direction of some advice? (Also any advice on network cards to buy/avoid would be welcome).
