I wonder if anyone can give me some advice please?
I have a machine running Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary Hedgehog on my home network. I would like to put in a wireless network card and then set it up as a proxy server/router with parental controls to give my son access to the net.
Is this a feasible project and can anyone point me in the direction of some advice? (Also any advice on network cards to buy/avoid would be welcome).
Cheers Geoff

Most linux wireless is done through a wrapper around windows drivers.
This can cause headaches if you try and do fun stuff like bridging.
Get a card with native support (Prism54 comes to mind).
As for filtering, use ip_masq and squid, the standard howtos should be
sufficient.
I did this a couple of months ago for parents and it works fine. Can get
a bit carried away with ie, dns, dhcp, ntp, squid etc etc

James
