[Sheflug] pam_ldap with GDM on Ubuntu Breezy
Has anyone here succeeded in getting GDM on Breezy to work with
pam_ldap? I can log on to the box fine at the console or with ssh so it
looks as if the settings in /etc/pam.d/common-* are fine (and these are
referenced in /etc/pam.d/gdm) but the graphical greeter hangs with a
greyed out password field whenever I try to log on, either with a local
or ldap user.
I have searched Google a fair bit for this and in various locations it
has been mentioned as pam misconfiguration and a bug in GDM - the same
settings I am using now worked in Hoary absolutely fine. Some sites
mention that GDM requires start_tls in /etc/libnss-ldap.conf but since
my ldap server is not using tls this does not help.
If I switch to using KDM I can log in without a problem, so I think it
is an issue with GDM in Breezy requiring tls when using pam_ldap -
shouldn't it just use pam and leave such configuration options to the
underlying modules, being that is the point of pam?
