I am on staff at Hallam, we have not had First Class for a couple of years and have to use Outlook
Webmail to manage email outside of the Uni., because we have not been allowed direct external access to the mail servers for over a year.

However if they are allowing students to use the first class client on their own machines to log on to the student mail server. You should be able to get the server information from the account settings and logon as a pop account, which I used to do in the good old days before we were given Outlook... I used kmail at the time.
