I spent a while trying just the same thing with a webcam a while ago and
in the end I think that I gave up!! I think that I did figure out a way
to do it by adding the id to the kernel module source but in the end
there did not seam to be a simple way.

Well other than in the kernel, I think that there are some in /etc/udev/
but I never had any luck geting it to work. I am not really helping here
am I?!

I have a k750i and it has the usbid of "0fce:d016 Sony Ericsson Mobile
Communications AB" and on both Debian and Ubuntu it Just Works (TM)! You
may want to try it on a modern distro, one of the live disks would be
good to test with. It might just be that with a kernel upgrade it would
work fine as there is no mention of the id in /etc/udev but it is
in /lib/modules/`uname -r`/modules.usbmap which I think is generated
from the kernel modules.
