If the router can see things, then check is to make sure your
/etc/resolv.conf has the right things in it, the DHCP client on your

lookups as well, traceroute is also useful.
Hi
I plucked up the courage and opened a terminal and typed what I thought
would list the contents cat resolv.conf and got
search localdomain
I wasn't quite sure what cat was so I opened the resolv.conf in gedit
and it said
search localdomain.
So I presume this would be the problem? Could someone tell me what I
should have in there? And can I do it in gedit? Just a thought can I
do what I have to do through network device, configure, DNS?
I have contacted my ISP they have given me two DNS server IP address.
I opened up mozilla and typed 192.168.0.1 to get to the router.
On the basic settings screen, it was marked 'get automatically from
ISP' under DNS address. I changed that to ''use these DNS servers' and
added the two IP addresses my ISP had given me to Primary DNS, secondary
DNS, but it didn't make any difference.
When I have changed the resolv.conf file will I be using 'get
automatically from ISP' or 'use these DNS servers'?
Regards
Janet
PS Thank you all for your assistance.
