Re: [sheflug] Multi distros?

Hi Everyone,

Thanks for your comments. I have installed Suse 10.0 evaluation and it
was quite painless. It ended up been quite large as there were
programmes I saw during installation that I thought might be useful. It
took a little while to get Thunderbird to see the folder with all my
emails in, but I got there eventually. Also I have sound which is very
exciting. Websites would play sounds at me, but I could never play cd's
etc with Fedora. It also looks suspiciously like Suse can see my USB hub
and card reader. So I may finally beable to leave windows altogether.

I'm really impressed with YAST, it was very easy to download
Thunderbird. I know there are a lot of email clients with Suse, but I
just needed to get my email working. At a later date I will investigate
some of the others.

The only thing that appears not to have worked is configuring the
bootloader. I have windows and Suse on the boot screen, I used YAST to
modify the bootloader. The boot screen now lists windows, fedora and
Suse, however I can boot into windows and Suse still, but it doesn't
work with Fedora, I get the error message
"Error 13: Invalid or unsupported executable format" :-(

I have checked file /boot/grub/menu/lst and it appears correct (I
think) as far as I am aware Fedora is at hda3.
In the file it says:
chainloader (hd0,2)+1 which looks right to me from the reading I have
done. It is not the end of the world as I should have everything backed
up (fingers crossed).

I also want to ask a question about the file system on Suse as it seems
a bit strange, but I will get back to that another time. :-)

Regards
Janet
