[sheflug] KDE vs Gnome... (batten down the hatches, etc etc)
Hi all,
Sorry about the question, as I know it's often very subjective. However I
can't find any real agnostic comparisons of these two desktops out there.
Background: my other half has had Windows auto-update install updates
automatically on her box. This has meant she's got the annoying 'Windows
Geniune Advantage' nag screens you may or may not have heard about. This
has spurred her to want to try Linux. This is a good thing :-)
I'm thinking the easiest way to manage a migration is for her to have KDE
or Gnome, but beyond the widget toolsets (Qt vs. GTK+) I know very little
about either. And googling just results in threads that can be summed up as
either "KDE rocks" or "Gnome rocks". Pointers to impartial sites would be
useful :-)
My gut feeling is to go down the KDE route, but suggestions welcome. How
compatible are KDE and Gnome apps these days anyway? Is there any sense of
interoperability or is it still quite murky?
Cheers,
Chris...
