I think that the disadvantages have mostly been covered but you may want
to look into what they are currently using for backup. We have
BackupExec running here and I have a couple of Unix boxes that have the
agent running and and so appear on the backup server just as a windows
box. 
The only other point I would add is that if you are going to snapshot
then at the very least you want to shutdown the database but really if
you are going to avoid corrupt filesystems then the whole system should
be down for the duration of the backup.
