[sheflug] Checking compile times from source

Hi all,

I have a quick question regarding whether it is possible to record the
length of time it takes to compile any given package from source. I've never
had the need to question this before (how long it takes), but now I do, and
I'm wondering if there is a way to setup a timer or something so I can see
how long it takes from start to finish.

The machine in question is a fairly fast Dell laptop, with Gentoo installed
and some fairly well optimised make flags set specifically for its CPU
(Centrino 2.26 Ghz). Well I think they are well optimised anyway :)

My initial thought is that it would be done inside of some kind of loop, run
from the command line, which includes the command to compile and install the
package itself.

Does anybody have any ideas ?

Cheers.

Steve.
