I found that the graphical installer was flaky installing Xubuntu on a
machine with 128 MB of RAM (i.e. it hung or otherwise failed to install
at least twice) even though 128 MB is the minimum recommended RAM. I
found the alternative text mode installer useful in that case.

I'm most impressed with Xubuntu for older machines. I have a perfectly
usable PII 233 running here with Xubuntu now, which is going to a
neighbour in need of a web browser and word processor.
