Yes, yes, but this isn't a laptop.

That makes me nervous just contemplating it (I used to work on development 
and maintenance of a major utility's on-line control software, and old 
habits do die unfortunately hard), but perhaps I'd better look into LVM. I 
spent a long, frustrating time getting to understand mdRAID, and I know how 
to work with it. Silly? Seems fairly logical to me. I think.
