If you are using KDE with SuSE then I suggest Kubuntu (Ubuntu with KDE) rather than Ubuntu which, by default, comes with Gnome.

I'm in completely the reverse situation vis-a-vis KDE/Gnome. I feel all fingers and thumbs in the Gnome interface and can't find the stuff I expect to be there.

TBH my problem is not coming off Windows; came off that years ago. You will survive quite well without it unless you need something like MS SQL Server or a specific Windows app like AutoCAD

My experience of Ubuntu is that it is easy to install. It works slightly differently to SuSE in that you make a minimal installation, setup the network and leave it downloading your required setup from Ubuntu repositories.
Very similar to a Debian net install CD.

I want to use Debian Etch so I'll restart the xserver shortly and log out to see if I can find kde.

:)
