Intel board with Intel sound chip by the looks of things.  There 
shouldn't be any issues with this hardware and the software.  Might 
be a configuration file that hasn't got the correct option set.  
Which means that the sound driver might not be loaded.   Can't 
remember how to check that the driver is loaded.

Oh... inbuilt ethernet chip ?

The other one would be that some of the hardware is hogging all of the 
resources.  I get that one when I plug a USB VOIP telephone device in 
to use Skype.  Suddenly the sound driver does strange things because 
the hardware has grabbed any spare anything.

Anyone else improve on this ?
