I went for aptitude -- reading around (and reading into ChrisB's comments)
it seems to be the "way forward" to some extent.

All up and running now quite nicely. Not had a Linux box for a year or so,
but now got one running within VMWare Player having pulled the Etch
net-install images from the thoughtpolice[1], using Xming[2] in Vista to
host X apps within Windows. Works quite nicely together actually.

Unfortunatly VMWare Player doesn't pick-up the SMP nature of my system
(only one CPU reported in /proc/cpuinfo): probably a restriction of Player.
Anyone any experience of Player vs Workstation? (i.e., is it worth forking
the cash out for Workstation).
