Nope -- it fell over with:
[snip big list of updates]
55 upgraded, 19 newly installed, 6 to remove and 572 not upgraded.
E: The package index files are corrupted. No Filename: field for package
locales.
However I've gandered at the thread refereced below, and it suggests
running "aptitude update". Which I have now done and "apt-get install dpkg
apt" now works.
Is there any difference between "apt-get update" and "aptitude update"?
Either way, I'll file it away somewhere to check both.
Next -- dist upgrade: I'll google for whether apt-get or aptitude is the
best way to go, although suggestions on a postcard welcome :-)
