Still looking into this.  If it's of any consolation to anyone out 
there I've had exactly the same thing done to me using my Gmail 
address whilst sending mail to the Debian KDE lists and the LUG of 
Davis list in California.  So, for anyone who wants to know, this 
isn't a local phenomenon.  It's a worldwide thing.  Perhaps the UK GOV 
have brought in a law which affects the workings of the UK internet 
without any of us knowing anything about it ?  DRM ?  Then again, the 
Chinese leader is here soon.  Censorship just in case ?  I recently 
noticed that during the Obama campaign the BBC News site wasn't 
allowed to mention black or Obama on any page.  These pages were 
pulled after they were written.
