Interesting idea! I don't know the answers to your questions,
unfortunately.
Just one comment: If I'm using a numeric keypad, it is for
rapid reliable entry of numeric data (often in large quantities).
For that purpose, I would want it to stay put and not dodge
around, so that my fingers (which after practice would "know"
where the different digit-keys were) would land reliably on
the intended digits.
I strongly suspect that using this device as a keypad would
tend to cause it to shift a bit between key-presses, resulting
in potentially unreliable data entry, unless the finger action
is accompanied by careful visual scrutiny of where the keys
are at the time.
