General Gob Wagging Stuff (please reply)

Hello

We'll be getting around to the Sheflug meeting on the 26th soon so I
thought I'd mention a thing or two to help us all along.

The chat about the content of the next meeting over a few glasses of
beer was sort of.... Gnome.. bit of KDE ... some of connecting to
the internet. Show Red Hat, SuSE, Debian and others on a few
computers. If anyone wants to bring along a computer either PC or
laptop please do so.

This might be a bit vague.. anyone want to add to this ?

I can supply the coffee and tea. There's also a shop just along the
road where I can buy cans or bottles of anything alcoholic at
sensible prices. Wards Best Bitter at 69p per tin. I don't really
want anything of that sort at that time but we are in a community
centre and people don't mind if we have a few. I was going to leave
it until later that same evening (at which time the underside of a
table may become a scenic view ?). There's a (good) sandwich shop
just next door and some good eateries along the road. So.... don't
worry about it :-)

Apart from this I've been having a think about inviting a couple of
unusual people onto the list. First is our Mr Turnbull at Tsukuba in
Japan. He's an expert on the internationalisation of Linux and
(some) of the economic considerations that are involved. I can't see
that we could get a good (long distance) conversation going but we
could have a go at it. Trouble in this country is that all of our
system is so enshrined in secrecy and shadowy figures that getting
any of them to do something sensible about anything is just about
impossible. Even the idea of using Linux to take a different point
of view or change things somewhere doesn't suit the grey figures who
are hiding out there. So... this might just fall on its face.

Another idea is to invite someone from a LUG in Israel to subscribe
to the list. I've already been on to the Israeli Internet Society in
an effort to track down the author of XF Mail. They were very
helpful. This is the mail system that Ted Harding uses. A lot of us
have taken a liking to it. It would help both Ted and the author of
that app if we could get an Israeli Linux expert to chat to us on the
list. Both Sheflug and Manlug would like to support XF Mail.

Finally.. I thought that since the last beery session was reasonably
successful we might have a go at another one at the Cask and Cutler
(or Fat Cat). Good dates for me are 18th June, 9th July or 16th
July. Can you all say which you prefer ?

If you don't like any of the above say so. It's your list to use to
help yourself.

Thank you
