Could you be a little more specific about the problem? For example, how
are you starting X-windows? Does it come on automatically, or do you run a
program to start it?

Also, what are the symptoms of the hang? Do you get a grey screen, with a
cross pointer in the middle? If you press Ctrl-Alt-F2, do you get to a
text login screen (what we call a virtual terminal)?

As far as I know, the Savage isn't directly supported under linux, but you
should certainly be able to use the SVGA X-Server to run X Windows. If you
have a text prompt, you should be able to run XF86Setup to configure the
X-Windows environment. After you configure it, XF86Setup will launch a
test server to check the new mode: if everything checks out in XF86Setup,
there should be no problems running an X-Windows session on your machine.
