RE: SuSE installation

(1) YaST has a silly habit of ditching your keymap - just rerun YaST after
installation is complete set the keymap to QWERTY - UK.

(2) What graphics card / chipset are you using ? If SaX does not kick off
into graphics mode try forcing it to use a particular server - I believe
this is sax -s <servername>. Make sure you installed the correct server
for your card first. Most of the time for older cards you'll get away with
the SVGA server - if you didn't install anything except the VGA you'l
always get 640x480x16. Rerun YaST look to see what servers it installed.
If it didn't install SVGA install it, and any other that looks as if it's
right for your card.

(3) Did you install LILO (preferably in the mbr) when it asked you ?
Without LILO on the disk it won't boot directly - you'd either have to boot
DOS run loadlin or boot from a boot floppy.

SuSE is a very good system - they all have quirks, SuSE tends to let itself
down in installation
rather than later on. Let us know how you get on.

Paul.

(1) Firstly, although I set up the keyboard to be in English at the start
of the
installation and it tested out OK, by the time the installation was
finished, it had become a qwertz, German keyboard.

(2) Secondly, the screen resolution is always configured to 640x480, which
is
poor on my 17 monitor. Can't find any way of increasing this to the
800x600
I use in Windows, SAX doesn't want to know.

(3) Thirdly, after installing and closing down the computer, when I
re-boot, I
get an error message saying Not found any [active partition] in HDD. It
then goes on to tell me to use a system floppy disk to boot it.
