compiling koffice

When going through the installation of the development tools i thought i
needed to compile programs, a dependancy check brought up a message
saying that X includes is also required to compile some applications.
Install the third part of the kernel source... i wasn't able to find
the 'THIRD' part but installed the whole kernel source code.

i downloaded 'koffice-1999127.tar.gz'. when i ran ./configure the
following message apeared.....

checking for shl_unload in -ldl...no
checking for X... configure:error: cant find X includes. please check
your installation and add the correct paths.

any advice ?
