I've since found that I have had to delete the 800MB partition and the
logical DOS drive in it (having previously backed it up of course) for Disk
Druid to be able to read the drive.
The problem now, is that although I can configure all my Linux partitions
in Disk Druid, after completing and telling it to write the partition data
to the disk it tells me that I haven't configured a swap partition,
although in reality I have. I'm then given two option, Retry or Continue,
if I pick Retry it then can't read the partition tables as before. I've
just selected Continue anyway and it's currently chugging away installing
everything in the next office.
I'll see how it responds when it's finished and report back.

BTW one piece of unrelated good news to report, although I'm probably
stating what's already well known to the inhabitants of this list. We have
a Micro$oft system with a dodgy floppy drive which trashes floppy disks
from time to time. They can't be reformatted on M$ systems but KFloppy has
no trouble at all and both Linux and DOS can read them fine after that. :)
