Amateur
new to Linux, so I hope
you'll all ready to groan/laugh or whatever tickles your fancy...
I've only been using Linux (SuSE 6.2) for nearly a
month now, and yesterday I thought I'd install the most recent kernel.
Everything went (surprisingly) well and now I boot up into 2.2.14.
However, there are a couple of things:
Whilst it's booting I get a message
saying Starting kerneld, version 2.2.2-pre6
(pid10) and that I really don't want to be running it
with... I can't remember. I read a doc that told me, I think, that I've
got two programs doing the same job. Later on, just before I can login, it
says the same message, but <FONT
face=Arial>What is this? Am I f**king up my system? How do I fix
it?
help, I can't get any
sound. I've got access to two sound cards a Videologic SonicStorm
Pro (ESS Maestro), and a Terratec (ESS slot-1). I
thought all I had to do was click on a button in
xconfig, reboot, and that would be that. I never got any sound with
2.2.10, but then again I never tried. It'll be great if you could
help.
Otherwise Linux is great. I've only been into
computers for six or seven months, a friend gave me his copy of Windows 98 (I
wonder why?), and I can't believe I stuck with for as long as I did, oh
yes, System Shock 2.
