The linux kernel used to use kerneld to load kernel modules (e.g. for
sound, ppp, filesystems). Kerneld has been replaced in later kernels by
kmod, which is built into the kernel. You SHOULD be able to simply
remove the initd entries for kerneld, though don't sue me if it goes wrong. :)
To remove the entries, find the directory containing the initscripts. On RedHat
it's in /etc/rc.d/, but I heard SuSE might have it in /sbin/rc.d/.
In the directory there should be directories numbered from rc0.d/ to
rc6.d/. Remove all the files with names containing kerneld, and things
should be fixed. I'm not an SuSE expert, though it should work.

The Maestro cards are supported, try looking at:
/usr/src/linux/Documentation/sound/Maestro
