Re: Mandrake 7 GPL

I can see where you're coming from, but view it through Mr(s) Newbie's
eyes. The column of lights reasuringly winks from red, amber to green as
the stages complete. The installer asks sensible networking questions -
samba config & nfs config. Ditto for the X config and sound config parts.
And finally, the funky KDM screen at login.

Given a choice between handing a newbie a Corel CD & Mandrake & it'll be
the 'Drake every time. Sheesh, here's me, one of the world's (ok, my
street's) greatest SuSE evangelists singing The Opposition's praises.

I'll still be training the ICL folk on SuSE because, as you rightly point
out, being able to manually select what you are installing is important,
which is where Drax falls down unless you put yourself out by navigating
the installation tree - yawnsville! If nothing else, it proves you can go
a lot further than Definite have done with RedHat as a base.

Now, if you could get the box set for the same price as SuSE I'd be very
tempted to build a whole machine around it for the experience.
