you need to scandisk it first, to see where the errors are. If they're
located in one (geographically) close area, then okay, use the drive, if
not, don't bother- it's shafted :(. I believe fsck & co also have a scan
option to scan the media (this is what you want to do), and the program
'badblocks' (IIRC) and associated tools is something else you will want to
check out.
BTW, I don't suppose the drive had 'parked' when you dropped it? If not
(and quite often they don't automatically), that'll be what caused any
damage more likely than not. That, or grease or something coming off the
spindle. BTW, don't low-level format it, even if you have the tools to do
so.
