Put the CD in the CD-ROM drive and find the KDE rpms. They should
have a version number. Should be 1.1 or 1.1,2 ? If it's 1.1 then
you've got the dodgy version. You can get a new CD from Linux
Emporium for about £3.50. They even have a three CD set of Red Hat
6.2 for £2.50 per CD.
