It also impacts users who browse with graphics tuned off in Netscape (dunno
if you can do that in IE) to speed page loading...the site becomes
unnavigable. I gave up doing this a couple of years back after it seemed to
be that about 70% of sites I went to also didn't bother with ALT tags...
Just having a look at the book reviews page ... now is this a quirk of
Netscape's "Composer" (I'm assuming it's composer that's been used looking at
the GENERATOR META header) -- the images it's laying out for the first row
.. it's putting the picture on the page in reverse order (ie, right to
left)...could that be a cause of the rendering going amiss? I've never used
Composer myself so I don't know how good (or otherwise) it is ...
On the plus side though, the page is looking good :) Richard; I've just
received your mail along the lines of "is this the thanks I get?" - most of
the responses have been constructive (in my opinion). Yes, the page is good
but, like all school reports "there is some room for improvement" :-) I'm
sure we all apprecaite you doing this work - but we many of us have got our
own experiences as well, to add to make the site better for *everybody*. I
must admit, the huge thread this has actually spawned has taken me aback a
bit, so I can probably understand your wobblyness at the mo.
I *do* like what's been done - the only thing that'd clean it up for me is
ALT tags ... the screen size is unimportant - I run things close enough to
1024x768 so I do miss some things that would be noticable at other
resolutions. But Lynx is one of my faviourite toys (it doesn't take 2 mins to
load, it's fast, and it ignores all graphics, so browsing is damn quick).
Do things in your own time at your own speed :)
