Paul,
have you checked the ssh config file in /etc? (ssh2 uses
/etc/ssh2_config dunno about ssh1).
There are options to force different levels of authorization..host
key/user key/manual password entry - any and all combinations.
Also are you getting any errors on connection to remotehost?
