[Sheflug] Awful world of JPEG

Richard & Alex,

On Sun, 28 May 2000, you wrote:

I'd done a clean install of SuSE 6.2 - just in case all my buggering about
previously had messed something up - and only added a new kernel, new PPP, and
the updates from SuSE's site, nothing else is here, man! I can only assume
that Caldera's RPM put things in the "wrong" place? (Sorry about the
techy-speak there). And that the RPM from SuSE was designed for use with 6.4,
though I can't imagine for one second the difference between 6.2 and 6.4 to be
that great? Is there some compatibility problem with certain libraries
involving this libjpeg/6.2/6.4 that I'm not aware of?

Will do. Thanks. Richard, you run SuSE don't you? Your, up to now, absense
from this thread suggests you have no idea what I'm on about with all this
jpeg stuff?!?!! Did you upgrade with 6.3 and 6.4 as they were released then?
Is that a more sensible approach? The thing is I've tried Definite 7.0,
Mandrake 6.1 (not 7.0, admittedly), RedHat 6.0, and Corel, and always came back
to SuSE. I like LOADS of things about SuSE, but I'm a bit wary about having to
upgrade all the time if this kind of thing happens. Have you had any problems
vaguely like this before?

Thanks again

Harvey
