True; I let www == http go because for practical purposes (despite the
fact that FTP, gopher, etc are really members of WWW) it's pretty
close. SSL on the other hand has a dozen "well-known" (at least to
Debian) services layered on top of it, some of which are clearly
distinct from WWW.

Yup. If he knows how long he will use the link, for i in `seq 1 $MIN/4`
should be substituted for the while 1.

I was just assuming that keeping the wife happy was worth the risk of
running up a big phone bill. :-) Certainly is in my case.

(1) If he doesn't know how to do this, evidently he set it up from a
GUI lacking the necessary buttons, no?

I've told you twice that I don't dispute the productivity or
(sometimes) the intuition of GUI. For my usage, they are typically
not that much more productive, nor does their intuition correspond to
mine. Where they are productive or intuitive, I use them. I
certainly hope that people whose luck is better would use them fairly
often.

What they are _not_ is educational. Most GUIs are very incomplete,
and excessive GUI use is highly correlated with inability to deal with
a crisis.
