I did wonder if the kernel option was the one.
In fact, I was sure of it. However, in the kenel docs, it says it should only be
used on battery powered devices (ie laptops) and could cause crashes on
non-portable machines.
Really, I just wanted to confirm my suspicions, which you all
have
