PC aren't that noisy ... its something you get used to. The hum is quiet and 
at a level and frequency that actual makes it easier to sleep to. If you have 
the case on your machine then the noise is minimal. And you've not heard 
noise if you've never powered a Sparc IPC up ... its a noisy bugger compared 
to a PC. And I can still sleep through it :)

Electricity -- hmm...PC's don't consume that much power - its a negligble 
amount they use. The monitor is the bug sucker. Another reason why to keep 
machines switched on - it removes the cooling-heating cycle that makes any 
mechanical object shrink and expand. That constant cycling can and does lead 
to premature hardware failure.
