[Sheflug] Hi

Hi Richard,

Sorry I've not been in touch lately but I've been abroad a couple of times
and I just haven't got round to subscribing to sheflug again yet.

I have a couple of problems / queries that you may be able to help me with -
you being an expert an' all ;o}

First, on my Mandrake box I,ve been trying to compile a new kernel using the
rtlinux-2.2a-prepatched kernel which other people have got working OK.
However, on my machine I don't seem to be able to get it to go right through
to making the bzImage. I've attached a screen shot of the last few messages
with the errors I get after 'make bzImage' has run its course. Any ideas
why? Perhaps I have missed installing some auxiliary piece of software but I
can't figure out what and it seems to be looking for an 'as86' command and a
'bootsect.o' file which I can't find.

Second, since I last reloaded Mandrake, I can't get my Windoze box to see it
on the network - it works fine the other way round and I can suck stuff
across using Samba but 'network neighbourhood' on the win box just doesn't
see the linux one. I'm sure I've only missed something very obvious and
fundamental but I just don't seem to be able to work out what. Can you help
please?

Finally, I've been trying to load linux onto another P II machine with
strange results. It won't accept either RedHat 6.2 or Mandrake 7 - both of
them lock up when they go off looking for the SCSI controller which is
on-board - but I have got it to load Caldera 2.2 (which seems to again be
based on the RedHat stuff as it uses .rpm packages). However, what is
puzzling me is that, on the KDE desktop, none of the windows display the
usual X-in-a-box close window symbol. Any idea if this is just a quirk of
Caldera or is it worth reloading KDE?

Best wishes,

Ian.
