Don't blame Windows, it's not always a feature present on Linux. In fact,
it's nothing to do with the operating system, it's an implementation thing.
This is why things like AFS, Gftp, exist - ftp isn't a language meant to be
spoken by humans. I don't communicate with my mail server using POP, I don't
communicate with my file server using FTP. You can talk it, in fact it's not
very hard (neither is POP), it's just that you're fairly twisted if you do
;)))

Oh well, thank god ;))

Yep. Don't expect standard kernels to be secure, they're not, as a rule.
RedHat (depending which edition you buy) prefers ease of use, given that if
you're putting this thing in a critical area, you ought to know how to
configure it properly in the first place ;) SMB as a protocol is notoriously
insecure anyway, so you'd have to be running it on a private network
preferably behind a firewall.

Bah. The UNIX one is far worse. The Windows one is fat and lazy and just
makes computers blue screen. The UNIX one is malevolent ;) It's worse with
Windows ME - UNIX satan particularly likes to infest LILO, and the fact that
making boot disks under WinME is a PITA (and you're never going to get to a
command line to fdisk /mbr ;), corrupting LILO is probably too tempting ;)

Cheers,

Alex.
