If you mention either of these to the crypto people they just laugh in
your face :-)

Blowfish was around in the eighties and so was PGP. In fact, I
remember early R&D versions of PGP that were developed alongside
UNIX.  Of course the latter was used by the US Army with an early
version of PGP and the internet at that time.

American citizens who know about this are signed up to a similar sort
of agreement to the Official Secrets Act that we have in the UK. 
However, very few British Citizens were involved in PGP and encryption
R&D.  The ones who did usually stayed in America.  One learns where
ones milk and honey is ?
