i had a similar problem with the mic..... just right click on the kmix
microphone slide and select 'mute'....... worked for me........

the other thing i noticed was that if you turn the volume up, you can hear a
cracling sound as you move the mouse...... as if the pulsed output from the
rotation sensor was beeing fed to the speakers........

i tracked this down to the cdrom input......... again select 'mute'
(you don't hear it when you play cd's!  although i'm sure Alex would :-)
