On kmix, I don't think you can "disconnect" the microphine -- at least
there seems to be no visible facility with that purpose.

You might try using "xmix" instead. There are radio buttons for
"Line In", "Microphone" and "CD" as Recording Source.

Another solution is brute force: a lot of the microphones you can buy
can be turned on and off by twisting the little round cap at the tip
of the stem (be careful how you do this, though).
