[Sheflug] Routing Problem



Dear All

My old internet facing box was looking a bit oldish and so I've
replaced it with a new one.  The old one was full of the kind of
security holes that reminded me of one or two film scripts.
 
I'm using my Compaq notebook to check the network configuration.  I
can
ping from my notebook to my new internet box and ping from the box to
my
notebook.  No problem there. However, when I try to ping 194.247.47.47
which is my ISP
from my notebook through my internet box nothing comes back when I am
connected.  Neither can I view web pages or check e-mail from my
notebook.

If I do route -n on my notebook I get.........

Destination  Gateway   Genmask       Flags  Metric   Ref   Use  Iface
192.168.1.0  0.0.0.0   255.255.255.0  U       0       0     0   eth0
127.0.0.0    0.0.0.0   255.0.0        U       0       0     0   lo
0.0.0.0    192.168.1.1  0.0.0.0       UG      1       0     0   eth0

I can get the notebook to use dialup my ISP and it works with the
Manchester Computing Centre network.  No problems there.   Route -n on
the new box reveals.........

Tried all sorts on this.  Can you tell me where I've messed up ?  Even
read two different books on networking.  ippp0 is the ISDN card.
