yep.... no way is this thing going to allow me to configure it:-(

i've already bit the bullet and gone and bought a new parrallel/serial port 
isa card with nice configurable jumpers on it :-)

worked first time....... pity compaq don't trust thier customers to have some 
sort of knowledge!
