You just need the lpr package. Actually, depending on your distro, there
may not be an lpr package, but a "cups" package (Mandrake? SuSE?) or
"LPRng" (RedHat) instead. rpm -Uvh <package name> and hopefully you now
have a working printer. Odd that it should disappear like that.
