Right,

I have now determined that all remaining problems are the fault of
BlueYonder. I used UKLinux' mail server while connected to BlueYonder, and
it worked first try. BY are phoning me tomorrow to sort it and grovel
(well, they'd better)

So thats it, I now have a MTA I understand!!
