AUI is an (old old old) way of connecting boxes together a la ethernet, and
it's a 15pin D female socket on the machine. The cable for this is a think
beastie, hence most these days have tranceivers connected directly on them
so co-ax or cat-5 can be connected.
Lots of old boxes have one ... I have a sun sitting by my desk with such a
connector, and plugged into it is a AUI <-> 10Base2 transciever, which
basically converts the AUI interface into a standard 10Base2 (thin ethernet
- ie, co-ax with BNC connectors) interface, which hooks into a no frills
cheap & nasty realtek network card in my machine :)
Tranceivers are cheap enough ... either to convert to 10Base2 (co-ax with
BNC connectors) or 10BaseT (UTP cat-5 cable with RJ45 connectors). About 20
quid or so. MAy be able to get them even cheaper at computer fairs (picked
one up for about 5 or 10 quid IIRC).
