I have been using mozilla 0.8 for a few months now and am getting
increasingly annoyed with its speed. I downloaded the binary package of
skipstone to find it was compiled against glibc 2.1 (I need to update my
distro) so it didn't work. Couldn't compile it from source as it needs
the mozilla source code. So I bit the bullet & downloaded mozilla 0.9
source, compiled all of mozilla then compiled skipstone. Mozilla 0.9 is
even slower than 0.8 & makes my PC speaker beep a lot but that was my
first build - trying it again overnight with ./configure --disable-debug
--disable-xul which might get it to produce a leaner build :)

Skipstone seems to work OK. Quite fast, maybe even more so when I have a
better build of gecko. Took some playing with to get it to build against
Mozilla 0.9. Very basic.

Galeon I have yet to try as the Sourceforge download site is down for
maintenance.

So the search is still on for the perfect Linux browser...
